Travel

Many people know La Union as the surfing capital of the Philippines. In fact, the province has become almost synonymous with the phrase “weekend beach destination,” alongside similar places like Batangas and Baler.

La Union is located just beyond Baguio (if you’re traveling from Manila) and is home to many of the nation’s best surfers. If you’re thinking of going away on a weekend trip with your friends, here are couple-few reasons to visit its white sandy beaches.

Enjoy the nightlife

If you’ve been looking up La Union-related pictures or memes on social media, chances are you’ve found a few saying you can find new friends (and true love) in Flotsam and Jetsam. Essentially, this place and most bars nearby promote lively parties featuring good food, expensive drinks, and loud karaoke sung by mid-twenties vacationers.

Even if you’re not looking to meet new people, these places are where the fun’s at. Get your barkada here to hang out until late at night. Getting a seat can be tricky, especially when visiting during summer. But if you get a chance to reserve one with your besties, you’re in for a unique party experience you can only find in La Union!

Visit cultural sites

If you’re going on a tour trip rather than just a beach visit, you’re likely to find everything La Union has to offer apart from the beach life. You’ll be visiting famous (and hidden) sites such as Tangadan Falls and the Manmade Forest. And if you’re just curious about what the neighboring cities are like, you’ll find them very quiet and peaceful. Just be sure to bring a power bank with you so you won’t get lost exploring all there is to see in this beautiful place.

Learn to surf

If you think surfing’s too daunting to get into, don’t worry! The beach hosts a hub of surfing teachers and enthusiasts willing to teach tourists how to take advantage of the waves. Of course, you won’t become an expert surfer with a day’s worth of practice, but at least you can say that you’ve experienced the joys of surfing in your life. Of course, if you’re a little worried about getting injured during your vacation, you can always invest in decent travel insurance from trusted insurance companies in the Philippines. That way, you’ll be able to focus solely on enjoying the many activities the beach offers you!

The beach and party life aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the kind of person who just wants to have a smashing good time by the seaside, La Union is one of the more memorable choices. Remember that peak visit weeks will likely affect your enjoyment of the place. Plan wisely, and remember to have backup plans if you find most hostels and establishments fully booked during their most populated hours.
